What DCS students from various batches starting from 1999 have to say about the course and about themselves
We internalize what is happening during the course -- and there is self introspection. Because of this I came to know about positive and not so positive qualities of mine, thus bringing about self-enhancement.
--- Sunitha B. J. (Capacity Building Manager, KHPT)
For a lay person to whom the concept of counselling is completely new, this course gives introduction. It helps the individual to understand emotions, improve oneself and one’s relationship with others. A person who is really interested in getting into counselling can grow from here.
--- Dr. Sumathi K T (Counselor, Philips Electronics and NXP Semi-conductors)
One year of DCS was packed with fun and learning. Besides learning to become a counselor, we did a lot of sharing and bonding. DCS helped me to understand and respect myself better, so I recommend this course to those who would like to contribute something to society.
--- Vasundhara Ghorpade (Counselor)
Its a lot about knowing myself, understanding myself, understanding people, and putting relationships in a better perspective -- it got me in touch with myself.
--- Bala Chauhan (Chief of Bureau, Deccan Chronicle)
It has been a wonderful journey of self growth and awareness and has enabled me to view life differently and positively. Joining DCS has been important in enriching my life and all my relationships.
--- Dr. Jayashri H Prasad (Scientific Officer, Bio-Tools Technology Pvt. Ltd.)
An all-in-one gadget called ‘BETTER LIFE’ -- along with a manual of its features and functions, and very clear guidelines about fine tuning -- including a special ‘LIFE TERM WARRANTY’ is what I received from this wonderful course.
--- Pramila Reddy (Counselor)
DCS is more of a journey than a course to me. It gave me the platform, space and energy to review my perspectives and reform & rearrange those especially with reference to inter-personal and to some extent intra-personal relations. The informal yet highly disciplined pattern of DCS without any imposition of ideas, beliefs, doctrines and dogmas gave me the much needed mobility and flexibility within my mind. If one expects an instant metamorphosis or gratification from DCS one may be disappointed. The impact of DCS is gradual yet steady and it entirely depends on how much one opens up the mind and chooses to explore and experiment. It is experiential. That makes DCS special to me.
--- Abhijit (Asst Director, The Association of People with Disability)
At 18 never had thought about many things. Life was running with whatever limited knowledge I had. This proved to be inadequate as days went by. DCS exposed me to thinking. Thinking about things that generally we never bother about but are very important to our day-to-day life. Also gave me a direction to these new flow of thoughts. The beauty of it is, never was I forced to think in a particular way, I had the liberty to choose my own path and go my own way. Eventually it liberated me from my past and brightened the future for me , for which I'm very grateful. Thank You!

DCS was a wonderful course in self-awareness. Doing the course made me and assertive and confident person. It also made me aware of my own emotions and dealing with negative emotions. All in all, the course was life changing for me.
--- Nalini Rao, DCS Batch 2005
DCS was an eyeopener for me to handle my children and family. The course has helped me to become assertive and understand people better. It has made me a strong individual. I thoroughly enjoyed the course.
--- Shobha A, DCS Batch 2005
I went into DCS knowing fully well what the course was about. I knew that along with learning how to be a 'good' counsellor, it would be a journey of self discovery. But even i did not anticipate how much the course would do for me as an individual. I always believed I knew myself - boy was I wrong! DCS opened up a world inside me that I did not know existed and obviously my world outside changed as well. I have learnt a lot over the course of DCS. It taught me about myself first; it taught me to listen and to face and acknowledge all the jugdement that I unconsciously made about everything. I would never say that I have become totally non-judgemental (not sure that is possible) but I am aware of my judgements now and that helps tremendously.
Through the platform of DCS I got a chance of interacting and learning from a wide mix of people and I can say I formed some amazing friendships here. I think over the yearlong course I opened up as a person and blossomed.
I am not claiming that the course will change you and thankfully neither does Banjara (I am very skeptical of these miracle cures that get marketed everywhere nowadays) DCS helps open doors for people and then how much you walk ahead depends on you. I think it is a journey that people should take on.
--- Neha R, DCS student
