Dog Collars Anyone?
I feel that all the people in the world are getting divided into two distinct categories: those with ‘dog collars’, and those without.
The category that is breeding very fast is the ones wearing the dog collars (for those who are still ignorant, ‘dog collars’ are the ID badges that employees of modern companies wear around their neck, to ‘swipe’ whenever they enter or exit their offices). The imposing glass facades, the centrally air-conditioned offices divided into kennels (sorry, cubicles), artificial lighting even on the most sunny days, ‘food courts’ (not canteens), and the perpetual activity of ‘plug and play’ on every floor 24 X 7 – it is indeed a virtual world. Work hard, party hard, is the Mantra of their lives.
Then there are the poor us – without any dog collars to declare our pedigree, like mongrels walking in and out of our offices or houses without the privilege of electronic ‘beeps’ that respond to our ID badges. No surveillance cameras to make us feel important, no fancy Passwords to log in, and no ‘tele-conference’ with people across the globe.
While we talk about sharing hot tea and discussing films, they ‘talk’ through their ‘apps’ and virtually live in a timeless zone not knowing (and perhaps not caring) about what is happening outside to the poor ‘Backward Classes” like us. But I am happy that I can go around without the physical and mental ‘leash.’
